Abstract representation of clarity and reduced focus in art

Edition Zero. Context & first look.

If I had to summarise the idea behind Edition Zero in just a few sentences, it would be this:

Edition Zero is a tribute to the mountains of the Valais Alps. A retrospective on the beginnings of a path that would change my life forever. A love letter to the peaks surrounding Zermatt and Saas-Fee. And an invitation to experience the emotional resonance of the high mountains, their beauty, fragility, and raw force.

Fortunately, I am not bound to brevity. Instead, I want to share why a work, now four years in the making, is distilled into just five meticulously curated photographs.

I have often spoken about the art of reduction, of focusing on the essential. This is the core of Edition Zero. Since first setting eyes on the summits of the Valais Alps in 2022, my life has been forever altered. The cumulative experiences of my journeys are woven into it, singular moments, remarkable on many levels. Moments of complete physical and mental exhaustion. Moments filled with human warmth. Moments when the sheer exposure of nature sent shivers down my spine. And moments of freedom, of pure joy in being alive.

These moments are inseparable from the climbs themselves, from the mountains that have since claimed a permanent place in my heart. Portraying them, creating an artistic retrospective on the origins of my passion for high alpine landscapes, is the deeply personal, emotion-driven idea behind Edition Zero.

It is both a homage to nature’s monumental force and fragile beauty, and an intimate reflection on experiences I once thought beyond reach. It is an invitation to shift perspective and ultimately, a call for a life of freedom and self-determination. Whether this finds its reflection in the work is for the viewer alone to decide. But I would be truly pleased if my thoughts inspire you to accept my invitation: to look through my lens into a world of extremes.

From the very beginning, it was clear to me that this retrospective required an extraordinary frame. Not simply five works with individual character, but a unifying context. Something that allows each work to stand on its own and yet be experienced as part of a greater whole.

The result is a handcrafted Collector’s Box, inspired by the terrain of the high alpine, rock, snow, and ice, which I now reveal for the first time.
